It’s been pretty cold here in Nashville making it feel quite easy for me to put together winter outfits! Today I’m sharing my go-to winter outfit combos with you for this year and heading into the next. If you missed it, check out my easy steps for building your winter wardrobe and my winter wardrobe essentials for this year.
How to Identify Your Go-To Outfit Combos
- Think back over your outfits from the past week or two.
- Observe what you wear— take daily outfit photos or write down what you wear.
- If combos don’t emerge, intentionally build outfits from what you have in your closet. You can research and save outfit ideas that you find on Pinterest, Instagram, Blogs, etc.
Hat (old from aerie – similar, similar) | Jacket (medium – similar) | Necklace | Jeans (old – new wash) | Bag (old from ABLE – same style in another color) | Sunglasses | Socks | Sneakers
If you see something you like you can shop the item(s) and support my blog at the same time by purchasing through the affiliate links in this post. As always, I really appreciate your support!
Benefits of Identifying Winter Outfit Combos
- They un-complicate getting dressed and allow you to quickly make outfits you love.
- You can easily repeat them. It won’t get boring because you can still be creative within the combination— it’s just a framework!
- They help you better identify and understand your personal style.
- They help you dress appropriately for the weather.
Winter Outfit Combos:
1.) Blouse + Top Layer + Jeans + Boots
Shirt (old from H&M – similar) | Long Sweater Blazer (small) | Bag (old from ABLE – similar, similar) | Earrings | Necklace | Jeans (28×28) | Boots
I love feminine blouses with denim in every season. A version of this always makes it on my go-to outfits list each season. In the summer I lose the top layer, swap the jeans for shorts and the boots for sandals. In the spring and fall I swap the boots for flats and do not add a top layer. A feminine blouse and denim is an easy pairing that always makes great juxtapostion— the softer and flowier top against the harder more rigid denim. Almost every pair of shoes that I own works with this combo— heels, heeled boots, casual boots, all styles of flat shoes, sandals, and white sneakers.
2.) Blazer + Jeans + Boots
Blazer (in-store at H&M, I sized down one size – similar) | Graphic Tee | Earrings | Necklace | Jeans (old from Agolde – new wash, new wash) | Boots
Turtleneck | Blazer (current in-store at H&M – similar) | Sunglasses | Jeans | Earrings | Boots (sold in whole sizes only so I sized down 1/2 size) | Bag (old from ABLE – same style in another color)
Of all of this year’s winter outfit combinations, this is my favorite. I’ve been swooning over blazers and wearing them on repeat. My favorite two types of shirts to wear under a blazer this winter are shown above— a graphic tee and a turtleneck. For winter, the boots have been my most worn footwear with a blazer and jeans, but I also like this pairing with sneakers and any kind of flats. (mules, mary janes, loafers, oxfords)
3.) Hoodie + Jacket + Jeans + Beanie + Boots or Sneakers
Beanie | Hoodie | Jacket (medium, old from Madewell – this year’s version) | Jeans (28×28, mine is an older wash – new wash) | Bag (old from ABLE – same style in another color) | Sneakers (I sized up one whole size)
Beanie | Coat (medium – similar, similar) | Jeans (28 x 28 – I am 5’7″) | Bag (old fro ABLE – similar, similar) | Hoodie (old from Target – similar) | Boots
This combo can be super comfy and casual (like the first photo) or a bit more put together (like the second photo). I really like layering hoodies (both zip-up and pullover) under top layers. I like them under blazers, denim jackets, military jackets, quilted jackets— all the jackets! The beanie helps it feel extra winter-y and warm on the coldest days.
4.) Jumpsuit + Cardigan Sweater + Boots
Cardigan (from H&M last year – new version, similar) | Jumpsuit (sold out from Target – similar) | Medium Hoops | Small Hoops | Boots
I really like this combo because it adds variety to my outfits that are mostly centered around jeans. Not to mention, a flowy jumpsuit is incredibly comfy. I also added a denim jumpsuit to my wardrobe recently, and you can see outfit ideas with that, here.
5.) Trousers + Sweater + Flats
Sweater (small – similar) | Pants (size 4, I sized down one size) | Earrings | Shoes (whole sizes only, I sized down 1/2)
Sweater (medium) | Pants (I sized down one size to size 4) | Necklace | Earrings | Shoes (size up 1/2 size – same style in a different color)
Here is another combo without jeans. (shocking, I know) I really like these barrel pants that are slightly cropped on me (I’m 5’7″). The warm brown color is lovely with the colors that I wear most often in fall and winter. These outfits obviously don’t work for super cold of snowy days if you have that where you live. Here in Nashville, I can wear mules most of the year, I just skip them on the coldest days. This is an idea to file away for next fall if it doesn’t work for you now.
6.) Turtleneck + Coat + Jeans + Boots + Beanie
Turtleneck | Jacket (almost sold out – similar, similar, similar) | Beanie (old from Aerie – similar) | Sunglasses | Earrings | Jeans (I sized down 1-1.5 sizes) | Boots (whole sizes only so I sized down 1/2 size)
Beanie | Jacket (sold out from H&M – similar) | Bag (sold out from H&M) | Turtleneck (medium) | Jeans (I sized down on size to 27) | Boots (old from H&M – similar, similar)
Turtlenecks have been my bestie this year. I just got the white one this year but I’ve had the gray for three years and my love for it only grows. Like the hoodie popping out of a top layer in one of the combos above, a turtleneck layered under something gives a similar effect but looks more polished— I just love it! I also love wearing turtlenecks on their own, tucked in to high-waisted pants. For more outfit ideas with turtleneck, check out this post.
7.) Top Layer + Sweater or Sweatshirt + Jeans + Boots or Sneakers
Trench Coat (old from H&M – similar, similar) | Sweater (old from Old Navy – new version) | Medium Hoops | Small Hoops | Necklace | Jeans (I sized down 1-1.5 sizes) | Boots
Jacket (old from BBDakota – similar) | Sweater (medium) | Necklace | Earrings | Bag (old from ABLE – same style in another color) | Jeans (28×28) | Sneakers
This last winter outfit combo is so easy and repeatable. I could probably make a month of outfits that fall within this combo with what I have in my closet. It’s really easy and comfy and perfect for days when you don’t have time to think about what to wear— it just works!
That is it for my winter outfit combos that I’m wearing on repeat. What is your favorite outfit combo to wear this winter? I’d love to hear from you in the comments below! For more outfit ideas, you can check out my fall outfit combos, here!
