One of my favorite things about making fall outfits is being able to layer pieces. Turtlenecks are a great base layer— they work alone or layered over or under another garment. A few years ago, I got this turtleneck from Everlane and it’s remained a staple piece in my wardrobe. I love the ribbed fabric and the fact that it’s fitted, stretchy, and super comfortable. It’s a slim fit and I got my true size. This year I decided to add the same piece in white to my wardrobe. Today I’m showing you the five main ways I wear turtlenecks for fall!
Turtleneck Outfits:
1.) Turtleneck Layered Under a Jacket
Turtleneck | Jacket (almost sold out – similar, similar, similar) | Beanie (old from Aerie – similar) | Sunglasses | Earrings | Jeans (I sized down 1-1.5 sizes) | Boots (whole sizes only so I sized down 1/2 size)

Turtleneck | Raincoat (old from Target – new version) | Sunglasses | Jeans | Boots (sold in whole sizes only so I sized down 1/2 size)
Whether it’s a shacket, raincoat, denim jacket, trench coat, etc— a turtleneck looks great under jackets that are open or shut. No matter how you wear a jacket, you can still see the turtleneck detail underneath. The outfit-making opportunities are endless with this outfit combo!
2.) Turtleneck Layered Under a Crewneck Sweatshirt
Turtleneck | Sweatshirt | Sunglasses | Jeans (I sized down 1-1.5 sizes)
This outfit combination is very 90s mom vibe, but I am not mad about it. I like how this combination looks and the layering also adds more warmth as the weather gets cold. For the colder of months, I would also throw a trench coat on over this look.
3.) Turtleneck Tucked In to High Waisted Pants
Sweater (old from Target – this year’s version) | Turtleneck | Earrings | Jeans (I sized down 1-1.5 sizes) | Shoes (sold in whole sizes only so I sized down 1/2 size)
Turtleneck | Earrings | Denim Jacket (I sized down one size) | Jeans | Shoes
I love a fitted turtleneck tucked into high-waisted jeans/pants. It’s simple, yet still looks put together. I especially like how it looks with pants that have volume— from straight leg, to wide leg to balloon leg pants.
4.) Turtleneck Layered Under a Jumpsuit or Dress
Turtleneck | Jumpsuit (old from Target) | Earrings | Sunglasses | Shoes (from H&M currently in-store – similar)
I really like how a fitted turtleneck looks layered underneath a dress or jumpsuit. Here I have a summer jumpsuit that now works for fall. The same can be done with a summer dress! I would also consider throwing a top layer over this look, like a blazer or trench coat.
5.) Turtleneck Layered Under a Blazer
Turtleneck | Blazer (current in-store at H&M – similar) | Sunglasses | Jeans | Earrings | Boots (sold in whole sizes only so I sized down 1/2 size) | Bag (old from ABLE – same style in another color)
The most chic look of the bunch. I have been loving blazers a lot lately. My style is really casual, but throwing a blazer on over pretty much anything takes the outfit up a notch.
What about you, are you a fan of turtleneck? If so, what is your favorite way to style them for fall?
