Spring is almost here so today I’m happy to be sharing my spring wardrobe essentials 2025. I plan out my wardrobe seasonally. I’ve done this for years and since I started doing this I stopped having the “I have nothing to wear” feeling.
I am not a capsule girl. I don’t like rules/restrictions or the idea of clothes sitting in my closet that I “can’t wear” because they didn’t make it into my capsule. Minimalism and the outfit-making-ease of a capsule is great for some, but it just isn’t me.
I am definitely a creative. To me, making outfits is like making art and I want all the “crayons” from my “crayon box”. My wardrobe isn’t just about efficiency, it’s about creatively expressing my personal style. I enjoy options and experimenting with new things currently happening in fashion that align with my style.
And— I’ve also learned that structure and intentionality aren’t limitations but rather facilitators of greater creativity. Each season I gather and plan the foundational pieces of my wardrobe first. Being intentional with the foundation leads me to greater creativity and freedom to build on from there.
I think of my wardrobe in layers.
The foundational layer is versatile basics— clothing and accessories. These items are the backbone of your wardrobe and should be planned and gathered first. Together, they could serve as a capsule if you want to be minimal and stop there. If they’re intentionally picked and well rounded as a group, you will be able to make lots of outfits. I’ll share some ideas below.
Examples in this layer would be: your perfect pair of jeans, a white tee, classic handbag, and the neutral, flat shoes you wear on repeat.
Added onto that is a second layer of statement pieces— clothing and accessories. These are less versatile, more of a statement, likely more of a trend than a classic piece. These pieces with more details/visual interest can be mixed with your foundational/essential pieces to make outfits more interesting. Plus, adding in these pieces means you’ll be able to make even more outfits. For me, they bring in more creative energy and help my outfits align best with my personal style which includes pops of whimsy.
Examples in this layer would be: pieces with colors, prints, and/or exaggerated silhouettes and textures.
