If you have been following me for awhile you know that I am a big fan of denim. My favorite brand is Agolde. I have been wanting to try Agolde’s 90s Mid Rise Loose Fit jeans ever since they were released! I finally got a couple pairs and today I’m sharing some outfit ideas plus reviewing the jeans!
How do Agolde 90s Jeans Fit?
The first pair I purchased was in the wash snapshot. I read a lot of reviews. Everyone seemed to agree that they run big and most recommended sizing down one to two sizes from your normal size. One reviewer mentioned that the sizing can vary between washes and that the wash I purchased didn’t run quite as big as another similar wash (called captured). So I took that information and decided to size down one size from my normal size. I think right now I am in-between sizes. So overall I would say that I sized down one to one and a half sizes. The second pair I purchased was a black wash called photogram. I got the same size as I got in the first pair and they fit the same.
When you read the description and look at the fit of the jeans on the models on Agolde’s website, you will see that the jeans were made to be worn loose. If you want a really loose, oversized look you could stick with your normal size. If you prefer your jeans to be more fitted, then sizing down one to two sizes is necessary.
I will note that when you opt to wear the jeans more fitted, the rise is high at 12.75 inches. They are actually the highest rise jeans that I own now. They have a button fly, which I love and prefer over a zip fly on rigid jeans. This style only comes in one length. On me (5’7″) they are between ankle length and full length (inseam is 29″). (UPDATE: They released a crop version with a 26″ inseam) They are described as mid rise because when worn very loose, they sit lower on your hips. It is also worth noting that wearing them lower would make them fall longer in length. So overall it is important to consider how you want these jeans to fit when you make your sizing selection.
Two things stuck out to me when I put Agolde 90s Mid Rise Loose Fit jeans on for the first time:
- The fit of Agolde jeans is impeccable. I already knew this from owning various styles of agolde jeans and shorts. I have honestly not tried on any other brands that compare— they are so incredibly flattering.
- The denim looks exactly like the denim from my vintage Levi’s jeans from the 1990s. The jeans are lightly distressed in all the right places. The people at Agolde are clearly denim enthusiasts who’ve studied and understand vintage denim with an incredible attention to detail. When you buy Agolde jeans you get the look of vintage jeans but with the perfect modern fit. This is great because then there is no need to tailor the jeans to fit like you’d likely have to do with vintage denim.
Sizing Update After Two Years of Wear:
I think my original sizing instructions are accurate. I just want to add a few additional notes that I think could be helpful.
- As I mentioned above, to wear these jeans truly loose and mid rise as described, you should take your normal size. When they are loose, they sit lower on your waist/hips and they are almost baggy. If you don’t want them fully loose, but you want them relaxed, I would go down one size. If you prefer a super fitted look, wearing these jeans high rise, go down two sizes.
- Be patient for the final fit and don’t wash your jeans often. I know some people have a hard time with this, but I rarely wash my 100% cotton jeans. This helps preserve the life of your jeans, and it also helps your jeans to really settle into being worn in. The jeans should be rigid and tight to start, then over time they relax and mold to your shape. In the case of wanting the high rise fitted jeans, buy them absolutely as tight and you can while still being able to button them. If they’re not tricky for me to button the first time, I know they’ll end up being too loose. The same goes for wanting a relaxed fit. When you get them they will look fitted, not uncomfortably crazy tight, but you’ll probably put them on and think, I wouldn’t label these relaxed, but give them time and they will be. For a loose fit, they will start out looking relaxed and then loosed up more to be truly loose.
- The photos in this post were taking when the jeans were new, and when I was on the high end of my normal size, maybe even into the next size? So in hindsight they were probably close to two sizes down. They were super fitted as I wanted and kept the fit I wanted to a long time. Due to life changes and just normal body fluctuations, right now I am back at my true size and these jeans are more relaxed on me, I’ll add a photo here so you can see. I’m not sure if you can tell what I’m talking about by looking at this photo, but if I pull them up and try to wear them high-waisted, the waist gaps all the way around, so now they naturally sit lower, just below my belly button. Also the upper legs and bum are relaxed instead of fitted. You can also see this alters the length quite a bit from more of an ankle length to a full length on me.
Do Agolde Jeans Stretch?
Agolde 90s jeans are made from 100% organic cotton, so although they are thick and do not have stretch in the fabric composition, they still feel soft. They will loosen up and stretch with wear. If you want them to be fitted I recommend buying them pretty tight. As you wear them they relax and form to your body shape.
There are other wash options that have knee rips and quite a bit of distressing, but I opted for this cleaner, light wash pair for my first pair of this style of jeans. They also offer a clean medium wash. My second pair I got is the black wash.
Are Agolde Jeans Worth It?
So are Agolde 90s Jeans worth it? Here are the reasons why I say— yes they absolutely are:
- Impeccable Fit: I mentioned this above, but it’s so true that it is worth noting a second time. I haven’t tried any other 100% cotton denim that even comes close to fitting as well as Agolde jeans— they are so flattering.
- Amazing Washes: The washes are all really versatile. I love all of the colors they release.
- Styling: I can see the attention to detail put in to these jeans. Even the cleaner washes are slightly distressed in all the right places, giving them the perfect lived-in feel. It takes a while to wear jeans in, and it can take a lot of time and altering to find amazing vintage jeans. Agolde jeans feel vintage in styling but with a perfect, modern fit.
- Sustainable: Most of their styles are made from 100% organic cotton.
Now let’s get into the outfits! When adding something new to my wardrobe, I always make sure that it fits perfectly and that I like how it looks. From there, I see how the item looks with my most worn shoes. Then I make outfits to ensure that I can get a lot of wear out of the new item with the other things in my wardrobe.
Outfits #1) Crewneck Sweater + Agolde 90s Jeans + Ankle Boots
Sweater (from Target and I sized down one size, but it is sold out online – similar, similar) | Earrings | Glasses | Jeans | Boots (old from Zara)
See something you like? You can shop it and support my blog at the same time by purchasing through the affiliate links in this post.
This first outfit is simple and neutral. I really like the proportions of this combination. It is an everyday outfit that I will be wearing on repeat until the weather warms up!
Outfit #2) Feminine Blouse + Agolde 90s Jeans + Mules
Blouse (old from H&M) | Earrings | Jeans | Mules (size up 1/2 size)
Shirt | Jeans | Earrings | Shoes (size up 1/2 size)
This is one of my favorite outfit combinations. I love it all year because when the weather is warm you can swap the jeans for shorts and the long sleeve top for a short sleeve top. I love the mix of the soft, feminine blouse with the more structured, tailored shoe.
Outfit #3) Blazer + Belt Bag + Jeans + Sneakers
Sweater Blazer (I sized down one size) | Tank | Belt Bag (mine is this style but in shiny fabric) | Jeans | Glasses | Earrings | Sneakers
This super simple look becomes fun with the addition of dark accessories. I like how the white sneakers and white tank tie in together. The sweater blazer adds a warm tone to this look. Rolling the jeans slightly makes this look feel more laid-back. It shows the whole sneakers and a hint of ankles for better overall proportions/balance.
Outfit #4) Jeans + Sweater Vest + Mules
Sweater Vest ( I sized down two sizes) | Earrings | Jeans (I sized down one size) | Shoes (old from Target – same style similar color)
This outfit is neutral with texture and interesting shapes. It is comfortable, wearable, and I love how it looks. It’s a perfect every day outfit!
Outfit #5) Long Sweater Blazer + Blouse + Agolde 90s Jeans + Dress Boots
Sweater Blazer (I sized down one size) | Blouse | Jeans | Boots ( similar)
This combination looks classic, clean, and a bit elevated compared to the other more casual looks in this post. It is still very wearable and comfortable. This style of jeans adds a modern touch to the other more classic pieces.
Outfit #6) Sweatshirt/T-Shirt + Jeans + Sneakers
Sweatshirt | Jeans | Sneakers (sized up 1/2 size)
Top (I sized down one size) | Glasses | Earrings | Jeans (I sized down one size) | Shoes
This outfit combo is super casual and the most 90’s-like. The sweatshirt in the first look is my absolute favorite, it is modern but looks vintage. Both the jeans and nike sneakers were designed after styles from the 90s. The checkered vans were also classically worn throughout the 90s, and now!
Outfit #7) Coatigan + Turtleneck + Jeans + High Top Sneakers
Coatigan (old from Old Navy – similar) | Turtleneck | Jeans | Bag | Sneakers
This is one of my favorite outfit combos this fall— a fitted turtleneck, straight leg jeans, and white high-top converse sneakers. I added this coatigan sweater for more warmth during the winter. I don’t dislike them as is, but I wonder if I would’ve tried rolling up the jeans once if the proportions would’ve been slightly better.

This is such a fun styling session with these jeans. I am a huge fan of Agolde too, and this style my very favorite one. I had these pants in Affair, and I loved them, but over the last year my body shape changed and they no longer fit so I sold them. But I have been looking at getting a pair in my new size ever since. It’s interesting, the ‘snapshot’ wash is more ‘one-color’ than I expected. I also have the 90s jean in ‘captured’ and they are probably my favorite jean in my closet right now! AND I have 2 pairs of the Agolde Pinch Waist 90’s jeans and I like those quite a bit. Those run TTS, but the distressed one definitely runs a little bigger than the non-distressed one. Okay, thanks for letting me geek out on 90’s jeans for a minute! Your blog post is so helpful, particularly on the sizing front!

I feel so seen! : ) I am such a denim geek and it is so nice to find someone else who feels the same way and loves Agolde too! Ooo I loved the Affair wash. I have definitely searched for them but haven’t even been able to find my size second hand. I was literally just browsing the Agolde 90s pinch waist styles online one minute ago. haha! I saw on your blog that you have them in navigate and I loved them on you. I have the Lana jeans in the darker wash so I am trying to figure out how they compare to the 90s pinch waist, they’re definitely a few inches longer. I loved the capture wash in the loose fit too and it was a toss up between those and snapshot for me!
