How to incorporate red into your fall outfits? Let me show you the ways. : ) This is something I’ve been doing for years and now it happens to be trending. Green is the color I wear most overall— but red is my favorite color to add pops of into my outfits. Green blends, but red is my statement color. Pops of red in outfits feels timeless to me, just like classic red lipstick.
Have you ever heard of “The Unexpected Red Theory”? If not—it’s an interior design concept that says that adding something red into a room, where it doesn’t match anything, makes the space automatically look better. I think the same is true in outfits. This is why my favorite way to incorporate red into fall outfits is number one listed below.
My Everyday Jewelry: Lou Puff Heart Necklace, Mia Coin Necklace, Ophelia Ring, Pia Flat Band, Rove Twisted Ring – code: TOMCZAK10 for $10 off your first order. Larger Chain & Heart Charm: code: MICHELLE_15 for 15% off your first order.
If you see something you like you can shop for the item(s) and support my blog at the same time by purchasing through the affiliate links in this post. Items are true to size unless noted and * notes pr products. As always, I’m so grateful for your support!
1.) Graphics on a T-Shirt/Sweatshirt
LEFT: Sweatshirt (old from Sézane) // Bag* (code: MICHELLE15 or 15% off your first order) // Pants (size down one)
MIDDLE: Tee (old from H&M) // Jeans (old cowgirl jeans from Still Here)
RIGHT: Tee (old from a local coffee shop) // Blazer* (code: MICHELLET for 15% off) // Bag* (code: MICHELLE15 for 15% off your first order) // Jeans
This is my favorite way to add a pop of red into outfits because it feels like just a hint of red. This adds contrast and interest to an outfit rather than the red showing up as a bold statement piece. I love it the most mixed in with whites/creams, tans/browns, and denim.
2.) With a Handbag
LEFT: Sweater (old from Sézane) // Bag (old from a local shop) // Jeans (old from ABLE) // Boots* (code: MICHELLE15 for 15% off your first order)
MIDDLE: Tee* // Bag // Jeans* // Sunglasses // Sneakers (code: MICHELLE15 for 15% off your first order)
RIGHT: Hat (code: MICHELLE15 for 15% off your first order) // Sweatshirt (old from Aerie – similar) // Bag // Pants (old from Target) // Boots (old from Fréda Salvador)
When you add a red handbag to your outfit, it becomes the focal point that the eye is drawn to. A handbag lands right in the center of your body so it feels balanced. It creates almost a layered feeling, “popping out” from the base of your outfit.
3.) Layered Under a Top Layer
LEFT: Trench Coat // Sweatshirt // Bag* (code: MICHELLE15 for 15% off your first order) // Jeans // Sneakers (code: MICHELLE15 for 15% off your first order)
MIDDLE: Coat (old from Sézane) // Sweatshirt // Bag* // Jeans
RIGHT: Trench Coat* // Sweater* (code: MICHELLETOMCZAK15 for 15% off your first order)) // Bag (old from ABLE) // Jeans (I sized down one) // Ballet Flats (code: MICHELLE15 for 15% off your first order)
Wearing a red piece layered under a top layer is another way to have a centered hint or pop of red. The brighter the red, the more it pops. Deeper shades create contrast but with less of a statement.
4.) With Shoes
LEFT: Jacket // Bag // Skirt* (code: MICHELLET for 15% off) // Shoes
MIDDLE: Jacket & Pants (old from Léze the Label) // Bag // Sneakers
RIGHT: Coat (old from H&M – similar) // Sunglasses // Bag* (code: MICHELLE15 for 15% off your first order) // Jeans // Sneakers
When you wear red shoes with an outfit, the pop of color is at the bottom of your look rather than the center. Because of this, the red feels more unexpected because rather than being in the outfit, it’s the exclamation at the end of it. It’s just one piece/pair like a handbag, but the different placement really changes the whole feeling of an outfit.
5.) A Top or Bottom
LEFT: Sweatshirt // Dress* (code: MICHELLETOMCZAK15 for 15% off your first order) // Bag* (code: MICHELLE15 for 15% off your first order) // Mary Janes (old from Zara)
MIDDLE: Cardigan // Bag* (code: MICHELLE15 for 15% off your first order) // Sunglasses (code: MICHELLE15 for 15% off your first order) // Pants // Loafers* (code: MICHELLE15 for 15% off your first order)
RIGHT: Tee (old from Sézane) // Bag* // Pants // Ballet Flats*
I just got these red pants. Prior to that, when it comes to clothing, I only had red tops. Oh— and I do have a red jumpsuit. This is the most straight forward way to incorporate red into your fall outfits, just pick one garment that is red.
6.) With a Hat
LEFT: Tee (old from H&M) // Hat // Jeans (I sized down one)// Belt // Bag* // Penny Loafers* (code: MICHELLE15 for 15% off your first order)
RIGHT: Hat* (code: MICHELLE15 for 15% off your first order) // Denim Jacket (I sized down one) // Dress (old from H&M) // Bag (similar) // Sneakers* (code: MICHELLE15 for 15% off your first order)
A pop on top, the end! : ) I won’t lie, this one feels harder to style for me— at least in non-athletic/athlesiure outfits. My darker red hat, on the left, doesn’t really look red in the photo, but it is (it’s maroon).
