It’s officially fall! When it comes to creating my seasonal wardrobe, I break up my items into two categories: essential clothing & accessories (high-quality, versatile, classic pieces and basics) and statement clothing & accessories (fun, colorful, prints, trend-driven pieces). I make sure the essentials are covered first. They make up the majority of my wardrobe and many of the pieces I’ve had for years. Next, I layer in statement pieces to keep my wardrobe feeling fresh. modern, and fun. If you prefer to keep your seasonal wardrobe minimal, you could stick to the essentials only and still have a fully-functioning wardrobe. Below I’m sharing what I’ve identified as my most core fall essentials as well as some statement pieces that I’m loving.

CARDIGANS— a cozy top layer that adds warmth and texture to any outfit. I love an oversized, boyfriend fit and a regular length that can be buttoned up and worn as a top.

BLAZERS— a tailored top layer that elevates casual outfits. I love both solids and plaids and prefer a bit of an oversized look as it feels modern.

LEATHER JACKETS— a sleek top layer that adds edginess to any look. I have both a black and warm brown jacket that are really versatile.

TRENCH COATS— a street savvy top layer that makes every outfit look chic. My favorite is the classic tan, but other neutrals like black and green are super versatile as well.

BUTTON DOWN SHIRTS— a classic piece for the tailored trend. I love them in denim, white cotton or linen, stripes, and slightly oversized.

TEES— a great base piece that works under any top layer and keeps outfits casual. White is my all time favorite, but I like black and striped tees a lot as well.

BLOUSES— a top that brings a soft, feminine feeling to outfits. My favorites are floral prints as well as white and black solids.

SWEATSHIRTS— a casual, cozy piece that pairs with any style bottoms from jeans to trousers to midi skirts. My favorites are solid crewnecks, solid hoodies, and graphic crewneck sweatshirts.

SWEATERS— a seasonal classic that adds texture and warmth to any look. I love them in neutrals.

STRIPES— a classic print that adds visual interest to outfits and never goes out of style.

TROUSERS— a great counter to having a denim heavy wardrobe (me!!) and perfect for workwear outfits. My favorites are high-waisted, wide leg or barrel led/tapered, in neutral colors.

JEANS— the most classic, versatile bottoms that go with literally everything. My favorites this season are barrel leg, wide leg, straight leg.

JUMPSUITS— a one and done look that feels put together and comfy.

KNIT DRESSES—comfy and textured, my favorites are neutrals and midi length.

HATS— my current favorite is a beige baseball cap that adds interest to casual outfits. I also love a graphic trucker hat.

BAGS— my everyday bags are crossbody bags and slingbags. I mostly have a variety of neutrals but enjoy a couple pops of color here and there.

SHOES— a powerful accessory that steers the feeling of every outfit. My favorites for this season are sneakers, loafers, flats and boots.

JEWELRY— I prefer dainty, minimalist pieces for everyday wear. I wear gold hoops and layered gold necklaces and I also swap to silver on occasion.

BELTS— making outfits feel polished. I have a few neutral options that I wear when I’m looking to elevate an outfit.

SOCKS— a cozy necessity that is also a statement. If the styling is right, a hint of sock sticking out of the top of boots is a great outfit detail. They are also really great with loafers and d’orsay style flats.

SUNGLASSES— a throw-on-and-go chic accessory. Sunglasses are super practical but they also elevate outfits and give them a bit of an edge.

SHOES WITH COLORS OR PATTERNS—  I love a checkered shoe or a fun pop of color to add interest and whimsy to an outfit.

DETAILED JEANS & PANTS— interesting silhouettes like baggy jeans, cargo jeans, or barrel leg jeans, as well as color variety and interesting detailing, all add interest to your fall outfits.

HANDBAGS WITH COLORS OR PATTERNS— a fun way to add in pops of color or shapes into your outfits. This season, my favorite colors for bags are green, red, and blue. I also like patterns made with neutral colors.

INTERESTING TOPS— patterns on sweaters, printed fabrics, color block detailing, and graphic sweatshirts will be in my fall wardrobe to keep it looking fresh and fun.
