Denim is a classic, versatile wardrobe staple that can be worn over and over again for years. I am a huge fan of denim— it is one of my favorite things to wear. I discovered premium denim years ago when I was in college and I have been hooked ever since. Back then, I wore brands like 7 for all Mankind, Hudson, and True Religion.
I love premium denim because of the fit, material, and washes/finishing. After I had my first baby, I discovered Mother (ironically? ha!), and it was my favorite brand for years. Now, my current favorite brands are Agolde and Levi’s and they make up the majority of the jeans I am currently wearing. Here is a look at the jeans I am wearing this fall. (for reference, I am 5’7″)
Denim Favorites From My Closet:
Levi’s 501 Skinny Jeans
Sweater (old – similar from the same brand) | Jeans | Sneakers
High-Rise: 11.25″ | Skinny Leg: 12″ opening | Length: 30″ inseam | Material: 99% cotton/1% elastane | Wash: Jive Ship
This is a high-rise skinny jean but it is slightly relaxed at the ankle. This style runs true to size and has a button-fly closure. I got them in a 30″ inseam which is full-length on me (they also come in 28″ or 32″ inseams). They are made of mostly heavyweight cotton (99%) with a touch of stretch (1% elastane). I love this wash because it is the perfect medium blue!

Shirt | Earrings | Belt | Jeans | Shoes
High-Rise: 11.25″ | Skinny Leg: 12″ opening | Length: 28″ inseam | Material: 99% cotton/1% elastane | Wash: Coal
This is the same style of jeans as the photo above but in a washed black and with a 28″ inseam. This pair crops just above my ankles. I got these in my true size. They are made from the same 99%/1% cotton/elastane fabric and they also have a button-fly closure.
Levi’s 501 Original Fit Jeans
Shirt | Earrings | Belt | Jeans | Bag (old- similar from the same brand) | Sneakers
High-Rise: 11.25″ | Straight Leg: 14.25″ opening | Length: 32″ inseam | Material: 100% cotton | Wash: Indigo
This style is high-rise with a button-fly closure. They are made of 100% cotton— rigid with no stretch, denim. These have a straight leg cut and are full length. I got the 32″ inseam because I wanted them to hit all the way down to my shoes. This pair works as pictured here, and they also look cute cuffed at the bottom. I got my true size in these and they start out pretty tight and then they loosen up a little bit and form to my shape.
Agolde Riley Straight Crop Jeans
Shirt (old from Zara) | Belt | Earrings | Jeans | Shoes
High-Rise: 11.5″ | Straight Leg: 14″ opening | Crop: 26″ inseam | Material: 100% cotton | Wash: Renewal
This style is rigid denim, in a light summery wash. They run true to size and have a button-fly closure. They have a slim/straight leg and a cropped length. Agolde jeans fit SO well— they are honestly the best-fitting brand that I have ever worn. The washes and finishing details are always very high-end looking and they are so well made.
Shirt | Earrings | Jeans | Shoes
High-Rise: 11.5″ | Straight Leg: 14″ opening | Crop: 26″ inseam | Material: 99% cotton/1% elastane | Wash: Satellite
This is the same style as the last pair of jeans, but in a super dark wash. They still feel thick and mostly rigid, but this pair has a touch a stretch. They are true to size and they have a button-fly closure. I love that this wash is as dark blue as possible, which is a bit unique and different from the other washes that I have. They can be worn casual but also look great dressed up.
Agolde Nico Slim Fit Jeans
Shirt | Cardigan (old – similar from the same brand) | Jeans | Shoes
High-Rise: 11.25″ | Slim Fit: 11.5″ leg opening | Ankle Length: 27″ inseam | Material: 98% cotton/2% elastane |Wash: Subdued
This is a high-rise slim fit style. These are cropped on me, and almost a skinny jean but not quite. They are a great medium-to-dark wash with a button-fly closure. This pair stretches out more than either of my Rileys, and the material feels just a bit less thick and more stretchy. These are a comfortable, casual, everyday pair of jeans.
Agolde Lana Vintage Straight Jeans
Shirt | Belt | Jeans | Boots (old – new version)
Rise: 11.75″ | Straight Leg: 16″ opening | Full Length: 32″ inseam | Material: 100% cotton | Wash: Vignette
This is a full-length, straight leg jean. The inseam is 32″ and they hit perfectly at my shoes. They have a zip-fly closure are are made of rigid denim. The fit in the legs is definitely relaxed giving these a bit of a 90’s style. They are called low rise, but the rise is nearly twelve inches which is high. I suppose it depends on if you chose to wear them looser or more fitted. I got my true size in these and they are a bit loose, which is the fit I wanted for this style of jeans.
Madewell High-Rise Skinny Jeans
Tank Top | Sweater | Earrings | Jeans (this brand runs large so I always size down one from my normal size) | Boots (old – new version)
High- Rise: 10″ | Skinny Leg: 9.75″ opening | Regular Length: 28.5″ inseam | Material: 44% cotton/42% Tencel Lyocell/13% poly/1% elastane | Wash: Danny
This is a classic high-rise skinny jean in a dark wash with a zip-fly closure. The material is pretty thin and really stretchy but they do not stretch out and they have good compression.
Everlane Authentic Stretch High-Rise Skinny Jeans
Sweater (old – similar, similar) | Jeans | Sneakers
High-Rise: 11″ | Skinny Leg: 10″ opening | Regular Length: 28.5″ inseam | Material: 77% cotton/17% modal/4% poly/2% elastane | Wash: Black
These are a classic high-rise black skinny jean with a zip closure. They are a true black and even the hardware on them is black. The material is interesting, and not like any other that I have. It feels thick and stretchy and holds it shape well without stretching out.
Everlane 90’s Cheeky Straight Jeans
Shirt | Earrings | Jeans | Denim Jacket | Bag (old – similar from the same brand) | Shoes (old – similar from the same brand)
High-Rise: 11″ | Straight Leg: 14″ opening | Regular Length: 28.5″ inseam | Material: 100% cotton | Wash: Bone
This style is high-rise, rigid, and has a button-fly closure. I like the straight leg fit and more relaxed style, especially because of the color of these jeans. I would not want white pants to be too tight, or thin and see through. If you like this style you should check out my recent post where I style these jeans to make five different outfits.
Abercrombie High-Rise Mom Jeans
Sweatshirt | Jeans (old – this year’s version) |Belt | Sneakers
High-Rise: 11.25″ | Tapered Leg: 13″ opening | Long Length: 29″ inseam | Material: 100% cotton | Wash: Medium Destroyed
This style has a tapered leg, high-rise, and a zip-fly closure. I got these in my true size and I chose to get the long length so they hit at my ankles instead of being cropped. This exact pair is from last year when they used to make them completely rigid, but they have since switched to adding 1% elastane in the new washes available now.
Abercrombie Ultra High-Rise Flare Jeans
Shirt (old) | Jeans | Boots (old – new version)
Ultra High Rise: 12″ | Flare Leg: 24″ opening | Long Length: 34.5″ inseam | Material: 94% cotton/5% poly/1%elastane | Wash: Medium Wash
These are made from a super stretchy, thinner material, but they hold their shape and do not stretch out. I got the long length, because of the flare style, so I can wear boots (with a small heel) with them and they will still nearly touch the floor. As the name suggests, they are an ultra high-rise and come up past my belly button to my natural waist and have a zip-fly closure. I love the wash and the shape of this style!
My Denim Wishlist:
Here are some styles that I am loving that are on my denim wishlist!
imogene + willie: Sophie Weston High Rise Straight Leg Jeans
imogene + willie: Kate Eames Wide Leg Denim Trousers
If you haven’t heard of imogene + willie, they are a local Nashville brand (and basically the coolest ever). Their shop is in a converted old service station on 12South. I have shared one of their graphic tees in a previous post. They embody what slow fashion is all about, making carefully crafted original designs, using American-made materials and producing their garments in the USA. I love the look of all the their denim styles and washes, but these two are the ones I am drawn to the most right now. The trousers look so unique and the straight leg jeans embody the style that I am gravitating towards most these days!
Moussy Vintage: Steele Straight Jeans
These are really expensive and will probably always just be an item on my wishlist, ha! I love this brand and their line of vintage-like jeans. Vintage denim is dreamy, but you definitely have to hunt for it. I have yet to find any other newly produced denim that looks so much like vintage jeans.
Vintage Levi’s
I am always browsing Etsy and Ebay, as well as keeping my eyes peeled if I am ever in a thrift store, looking for vintage Levi’s jeans. I am generally looking for 501’s from the 1980’s-1990’s. Vintage denim has beautiful character which comes from the indigo being worn for years and years. It is heavyweight 100% cotton denim and back in the era I look for, they were made in the USA.
Agolde 90’s Mid-Rise Straight Jeans
Update: Since originally writing this post, I have these jeans and they are a favorite of mine. Read my full reivew of them, here!
Agolde 90’s Pinch Waist Jeans
Update: Since originally writing this post, I have this stye of jeans now and I really love them. I reviewed them, here!
I love Agolde denim! The 90’s mid-rise jeans have been out for a few seasons, but the 90’s pinch waist style is new. I love the cut of both of these so much. I have been much more drawn to straight-leg denim cuts over skinny jeans lately.
