When it comes to fall footwear, boots are the main thing. There are tons of boots on the market— but one of the most-popular styles for this fall is combat boots.
As the name suggests, combat boots were first worn by the military in the 1940’s during World War II. As they were updated, the older versions ended up in surplus stores and onto the feet of the masses.
There are a lot of versions of fashion combat boots— so many different details and colors. Some are more sleek while others have chunky lug soles. Here are five outfits that I styled with a few pairs of combat boots from my closet.
Outfit #1: Beanie + Sweater + Denim Jacket + Skinny Jeans + Belt Bag + Combat Boots
Beanie (old – similar) | Sweater | Denim Jacket | Jeans | Sunglasses old from Warby Parker | Belt Bag (same style in matte fabric) | Boots (old – similar, similar, similar)

I figured I would jump right in with my favorite outfit of the bunch. This is a great everyday outfit and it feels super ‘mom chic’— is that a thing? It looks casual and cool. It is comfortable, and practical while still being really stylish— the makings of a perfect outfit! I have shared this belt bag about a million and one times- ha! I cannot express how perfect it is. The material works with yoga pants on a walk, a casual dress, and everything in between. The belt bag is large but light and easily holds everything that I need. I wear in on my hip, chest (as shown here) or over my shoulder like a backpack.
Outfit #2: Dress + Faux Leather Jacket + Crossbody Bag + Combat Boots
Dress (old – similar, similar, similar) | Faux Leather Jacket | Sunglasses (old from Warby Parker) | Bag (sold out – similar same brand) | Boots
While it is still fall and not too cold yet, this midi dress works perfectly with these sleek combat boots. This outfit is what I like to call ‘everyday elevated’— it is something I would wear to any daytime event or casual night outing.
Outfit #3: Crewneck Sweater + Slim Jeans + Tote Bag + Combat Boots
Sweater (old – this year’s version) | Sunglasses (old from Warby Parker) | Jeans (old – same style in a different wash, I sized up one size) | Boots | Bag
This is an easy, everyday look. This is one of my favorite, super simple outfit combinations for this fall— a crewneck sweater, perfectly lived-in vintage-like jeans, a beautiful bag and insert any footwear. You could swap these boots for sneakers, mules, or flats.
Outfit #4: Sweater Blazer + Tank + Belt + Skinny Jeans + Combat Boots
Tank (old from Target) | Sweater Blazer (old from J.Crew) | Belt (sold out – from Topshop) | Jeans | Boots
This is another everyday elevated outfit for me. I am a mom and I work from home, so in this phase of my life my wardrobe skews casual. If I worked in an office I would absolutely wear this as an everyday look. This outfit is super comfortable while still feeling very put together.
Outfit #5: Turtleneck + Belt + Slim Jeans + Combat Boots
Turtleneck (from H&M – current in store but not online) | Belt (sold out – from Topshop) | Jeans | Bag (old – similar same brand) | Boots
This last look is an easy, everyday outfit. Lately I have been loving wearing turtlenecks. This slight pop of color adds a nice bit of variety to my fall wardrobe, which is mostly neutrals.
I will be wearing combat boots a lot this fall! As you can see from how I styled them above, combat boots are super versatile Do you like combat boots? If so, what is your favorite way to wear them?
