It’s getting very hot and humid here in Nashville! Because of that, I’ve already been wearing summer outfits and thinking about which outfit combos are my favorites. Each season, I gravitate towards certain items and end up using them to create outfit combos that I wear on repeat. It’s a process that happens naturally for me and I really enjoy identifying them and sharing them seasonally here on my blog.
Top (medium) | Shorts (tts, 6) | Sunglasses (gifted) | Necklace (similar same brand) | Bag | Sandals (tts, whole sizes only so I sized up 1/2)
If you see something you like you can shop for the item(s) and support my blog at the same time by purchasing through the affiliate links in this post. As always, I really appreciate your support!
If you want to discover your go-to outfit combos, I recommend taking photos of your outfits (just a quick mirror selfie) and/or writing down what you wear. Then you can go over your photos/notes to find repeated combinations. Or, you can do the reverse— start with a list of combinations that you have seen and like, then create your outfits from there.
Benefits of Seasonal Outfit Combos:
- They un-complicate getting dressed and allow you to quickly make outfits you love.
- You can easily repeat them. It won’t get boring because you can still be creative within the combination— it’s just a framework!
- They help you better identify and understand your personal style.
Summer Outfit Combos:
1.) Matching Sets & Monochrome
Top (my normal size would be 4-6 and I got size 2) | Shorts (tts, 6) | Bag (gifted) | Sunglasses (gifted, use code MichelleT15 for 15% off) | Necklace (similar same brand) | Earrings | Sandals (tts)
Tank Top (tts, medium) | Earrings | Necklace (similar same brand) | Shorts (tts, 6) | Bag (old from Madewell – similar) | Sandals (tts, whole sizes only so I sized up 1/2)
With summer outfits, you have less to create interest with. You’re not wearing layers or as many pieces due to the heat. I love matching sets and monochromatic outfits because they cut down on decision making and instantly make an interesting outfit. They’re enough out of the norm that they are eye catching, they flow, and they feel put together. This outfit combo works well when you create color contrast with accessories (like the straw bag in the second look), or with different textures (as in the full monochromatic first look— leather, patent leather, linen, subtle print).
2.) Dress + Sandals or Sneakers
Dress (gifted, I got my smaller size, 4) | Necklace (similar same brand) | Sunglasses (gifted, use code MichelleT15 for 15% off) | Bag (old from ABLE – similar, similar) | Sandals (similar same brand – tts, whole sizes only so I sized up 1/2)
Dress (gifted, tts – medium) | Earrings | Necklace (similar same brand) | Bag | Sandals
I want my summer outfits to be unfussy. It’s so hot here, so no matter how much I like an outfit, if I’m uncomfortable in the heat it just won’t work. A flowy dress with sandals or sneakers always feels like a good option in the summer— both for comfort in the heat and aesthetic.
3) Tank or Tee + Tailored Shorts + Sandals
Tank Top | Shorts (sold out from AF – similar, similar) | Necklace (sold out – same brand) | Sunglasses (gifted) | Bag | Sandals (tts, whole sizes only so I sized up 1/2)
Tee (I got my smaller size, small) | Earrings | Necklace (similar same brand) | Shorts (tts, 6) | Bag (old from ABLE – similar, similar)| Sandals (tts)
This combo is my new favorite this year. Last summer a muscle tee with non-denim shorts was on my go-to summer outfit combos list. This new combo feels like a chic-er evolution of the one from last year. In the spring I loved wearing tailored trousers. That aesthetic is now spilling over into summer via tailored shorts— I’ve been absolutely loving them. My favorite ways to wear them are as above— with a rib knit tank or a white tee and sandals. My favorites have been the lace ups and fisherman styles shown in these outfits.
4.) Feminine Top + Denim Shorts + Sandals
Shirt (my smaller size, 4) | Shorts (I sized up one size) | Necklace (similar same brand) | Bag (old from Madewell – similar) | Sandals (sold out – similar, similar – tts, whole sizes only so I sized up 1/2)
This is my longest running favorite combo— denim paired with a feminine blouse. I think I’ll love this forever. It carries so much juxtaposition, which I love— feminine and masculine, hard and soft in texture, etc. It’s a combo that I always feel like myself in.
5.) Romper or Jumpsuit
Romper | Bag (gifted, tote backpack in coldbrew) | Necklace (similar same brand) | Shoes (I sized down 1/2 size)
I spoke above about wanting unfussy outfits— I want easy pieces that are full of interesting details. This can be color, texture, etc. I love this throw-on-and-go romper. It’s a lovely textured, neutral fabric that feels like a blank slate for accessorizing. I can switch up the bag and shoes to keep it interesting and feeling fresh all season long. If rompers aren’t your thing, a loose jumpsuit in a breathable, lightweight fabric would also work well in the heat.
