I believe that owning high-quality wardrobe essentials is one of the keys to putting together spring outfits that you feel great in and enjoy wearing. Some of these essentials stick around all year (I’m looking at you white tee), while other essential pieces change from season to season.
Today I’m sharing my spring wardrobe essentials for 2022. These are the most versatile, core pieces that I use as the foundation to my spring outfits. Sometimes I wear them all together, but more often I mix them with trend/statements pieces.
If you missed it last week, I shared my process on building your spring wardrobe, layer by layer and if you haven’t already, I’d love for you to check that out!
Cardigan (small) | Earrings | Necklace (similar) | Bag | Jeans (28 regular) | Shoes (whole sizes only so I sized down 1/2)
If you see something you like you can shop for the item(s) and support my blog by purchasing through the affiliate links in this post. As always, I really appreciate your support.
Spring Wardrobe Essential Clothing 2022
Dress, Skirt, or Jumpsuit
- Midi Dress: I have one that is super similar to the one linked and in the photo. It’s a great piece for spring because it’s very effortless yet put together— you can just throw it on and go. My favorite way to wear it is with white sneakers and either a denim or moto jacket if needed for warmth.
Top Layers
- Denim Jacket: In my mind, this is the most classic spring top layer— a staple piece for sure. It literally goes with everything.
- Blazer: I’m still riding the wave of really loving blazers and wearing them all the time. Because of that, I really wanted a light neutral blazer for spring layering. This is a classic piece but it’s also really having a moment as tailored pieces, especially in oversized silhouettes, continue to gain popularity.
- Trench Coat: Like the denim jacket, this is a classic spring layer that never goes out of style. It immediately makes any outfit look more chic.
- Cardigan Sweater: I love knits and spring is still a time that adding an easy layer can be necessary on chillier days. A light, neutral cardigan pairs so well with florals, stripes and spring colors.
Tops
- T-Shirt: A white tee is the most easy and classic piece all year long. T-shirts in basic colors are great foundational pieces that can be paired with any style of bottom, even printed and colorful pieces.
- Feminine Blouse: This style of top is my favorite all year long, but in spring it feels extra perfect. I love blouses with feminine details in solid colors and in floral prints. A neutral blouse is a super versatile piece that you can wear on repeat all season long.
- Button Up Shirt: Like a t-shirt, this is a very classic top silhouette. This tailored piece is super versatile and can be styled in a traditional or relaxed way. Check out this post for styling ideas.
- Cardigan Sweater: Yes this is a repeat, and no it’s not a mistake. I love wearing rib-knit cardigans buttoned up as a top instead of a top layer (see photos above).
Bottoms
- Light wash jeans: Get some in your favorite cut (mine is straight leg) and wear them on repeat all season long. I think this is the most versatile, staple bottom piece for spring.
- White Jeans: I love white jeans all year long, but they feel extra fresh in the spring.
- Lightweight pants: I made some pants that look very similar to the pants in the collage above. (see them here) I love colored bottoms for spring and the wide leg silhouette is my favorite.
- Denim Shorts: This is a staple item for warm spring days. Denim shorts are laid-back, super versatile and of course carry into summer.
- Non-Denim Shorts: A neutral, tailored pair of shorts is another super versatile piece that is a great foundation for spring outfits on warm days. It’s great to have in your wardrobe with denim cut offs as they bring a totally different feel and thus variety to your outfits.
Spring Wardrobe Essential Shoes & Accessories 2022
Hat
- Baseball cap: I’ve had this hat for quite awhile and I love it. It’s easy to throw on with so many outfits and it brings a laid-back feeling. If you aren’t into this style of hat, I also personally have a light tan fedora and it adds more of a boho feel to outfits.
Jewelry
- Silver hoops: Classic everyday hoops that go with everything. I love minimal and dainty jewelry.
- Gold hoops: Classic gold hoops are what I wear daily.
- Gold coin necklace: Another daily piece I wear, a gold coin necklace.
Shoes
- Woven mules: I love woven leather so much— I’m definitely a lover of texture. The earthy brown tone and the slide-on-and-go quality of these shoes make them so appealing for everyday wear.
- Neutral Heel Sandals: These are great for elevating spring outfits.
- Neutral sandals: I personally love these huarache sandals, but any style neutral sandals that you prefer will be super versatile in your spring outfits.
- White sneakers: These are my most-worn shoes by far and have been for the past few years. I love them with everything— shorts, pants, dresses, skirts, jumpsuits.
Bags
- Crossbody bag: A crossbody bag is my go-to daily bag choice. The size, accessibility to what’s inside, and ease of wearing it hands free make it a no brainer for me.
- Belt Bag: This is completely hands free option. I love how it looks with most things, but is usually a smaller size and doesn’t work with every style of top. I wear this style a lot, but not daily.
- Tote Bag: I love a good tote bag for heading to meetings, to work at a coffee shop, or when we are out for the day doing multiple things and I need to carry more items.
Other Accessories
- Belt: I love belts in the spring and summer when the weather warms up. A belt becomes my third piece in an outfit instead of a top layer.
- Sunglasses: I love sunglasses, both for the practicality and the fashion statement.
Where I Shop for My Spring Wardrobe
- Shopbop: I shop for investment items here like my Agolde jeans and shorts, Veja sneakers, Anine Bing items, and more.
- Revolve: I shop for the same things here that I shop for at Shopbop.
- Madewell: I shop literally all of the categories at this store. It’s all so good and they have a great mix of classic pieces mixed with trends and it all feels really modern.
- Abercrombie: This store is sneakily good. It was a staple for me way back in high school and I rediscovered it a few year ago by trying their denim. For the price, it’s a great Agolde dupe and they do pretty much directly dupe their styles. At less than half the price it’s a great option, but also nowhere near as amazing as the fit and details of Agolde denim. Really all the categories are good here, I just tried some tailored pants and they are a really good dupe for Aritizia pants, again at less than half the price.
- Everlane: This is a place that I get high-quality basics.
- Nisolo: My favorite shoe brand, offering ethical and sustainable footwear at approachable prices.
- ABLE: I love the mission of this local-to-nashville company. They lift women up, and use ethical and sustainable practices. Their bags are my favorite and I’ve been adding their apparel to my wardrobe as well.
- Grayson: They have the best button up shirts. The fit is so good and I love their fabrics and color options. You can use my code MICHELLETOMCZAK for $25 off of your purchase.
- Nordstrom: This is my favorite department store. I love the brands the carry and I shop many categories here.
- Target: This store is so accessible and affordable. When it comes to shopping for wardrobe items at Target, I stick mostly to tops, dresses, and sandals. Their pants are a no-go for me due to fit.
- H&M: This is my go-to place for affordable trendy pieces. It’s wear I buy almost all of my blazers and jackets, those are my favorite categories from them, but I also like their tops, dresses, and shoes.
- Mango: This is another place I buy afforable trendy pieces. I would say it’s a bit more elevated in style and price from H&M.
- Agolde: I’ve been wearing this brand for years and have come to the point that almost all of my jeans and shorts are from them. They’re truly just that good and I have reviewed lots of their items, here.
- Levi’s: My second favorite denim brand that I have a few pairs of in my wardrobe. It’s more affordable than Agolde but the fit isn’t as good. It’s still great, but to me Agolde’s fits are unmatched.
