If you want to live in outfits you love and be warm and cozy this winter, it’s time to make sure you have winter wardrobe essentials covered in your closet. I don’t know about you, but I don’t like being cold— not one bit. With that said, I’m also prone to running out the door with bare ankles and not enough layers when it’s freezing in the mornings, then quickly regretting not taking the time to wear the proper winter essentials. (get it together, Mich : )
Today I’m sharing my winter wardrobe essentials for 2021. These are versatile, core items that I add to my fall wardrobe to help me make winter outfits. I’ve found that although Nashville isn’t nearly as cold as some other places (i.e. Michigan, where I grew up), because of that it’s easy to fall into not getting winter items and then being really cold because of that. Preparation is so important!
If you missed it last week, I shared my process of how to building your winter wardrobe in four easy steps.
Beanie | Jacket (sold out from H&M – similar) | Bag (sold out from H&M) | Turtleneck (medium) | Jeans (I sized down on size to 27) | Boots (old from H&M – similar, similar)
If you see something you like you can support my blog and shop the item(s) at the same time by purchasing through the affiliate links in this post. As always, I really appreciate your support!

- Blazer: Love this with everything— I’ve been wearing blazers a lot this year. They elevate my casual outfits and make everything feel just a little bit cooler.
- Long Sweater Blazer: A super versatile, lovely third layer. Here are some ideas on how to wear it.
- Cardigan: I’ve always been a cardigan girl— love them as top layer, but I also have been loving them buttoned up and worn more like a shirt..
Tops:
- Rib-Knit Turtleneck: The perfect layering piece for the winter. Looks amazing under jackets, sweaters, sweatshirts— or on it’s own.
- Turtleneck Sweater: This looks slightly oversized and therefore cozy but elevated with the turtleneck and crisp black color both upping the chic factor.
- Crewneck Sweater: Such an easy, cozy, everyday piece that can be worn alone or layered under a coat for added warmth.
- Pullover Hoodie: Love this for layered under a blazer or a jacket. It adds warmth and a laid-back feeling to every outfit.
Bottoms:
- Dark Wash Slim Jeans: These pair super well with boots and I love them with sneakers too. They feel classic and an be easily dressed up.
- Light Wash 90s Jeans: These feel laid back and they don’t stand in the way of color schemes, they pull almost as a neutral.
- Black Wash 90s Jeans: These are relaxed and feel lived in. I love the contrast they bring to lighter tones.
