Lessons & Takeaways
Only one cheap item made it to my favorites list. By cheap I mean made of plastic and purchased for less than $50— embellished ballet flats from H&M. I mostly fill my wardrobe with items from ethical, sustainable, small fashion brands, and well made items made of natural materials. With that said, I still grab things from fast fashion chains here are there. When I do, I check fabric content and if it’s well made. For example, this year I got 100% cotton corduroys from Target, a well-constructed Barn Coat from H&M, and 100% cotton basic tees from Old Navy. I still really like all of these pieces— they’re great. There were a few others that weren’t as great, but that was really minimal. All of this just reminds me to keep the fast fashion shopping to a minimum, and that my attentive strategies on the fabric and construction is something I’ll carry forward into next year.
My style is denim heavy with classic neutrals and pops of whimsy. I already knew this about my style, but looking at the collage of my favorite wardrobe additions from the year confirms this. This is encouraging news as I’ve intentionally figured out my style and what I like.
I really like high-quality handbags. High-quality, leather handbags make such a difference in making an outfit look put together. My style is casual and I love the juxtaposition of an elevated handbag with my outfits.
I’m most likely to invest in denim, shoes, and handbags. If I think about what I purchased, the highest priced items fall into these three categories.
