So long summer— the 2024 fall fashion trends are here! It’s still really hot here in Nashville, but I’m going to ignore that and sit in my jeans in my air-conditioned house. : ) I think it’s really fun and interesting to watch what happens in fashion from season to season. As summer exits, what trends will shift, what will stick around, what will be back from last year, what is new?
While It’s fun, for me, to follow and watch by no means do I wear all of the trends. I don’t subscribe to the idea of getting a whole new wardrobe every season as that is costly and wasteful. I also don’t believe in wearing things just because it’s “in”. I think it’s really important to wear what you love and what resonates with your style.
I always aim to stay true to my style, and part of my style is experimenting with new things that I’m drawn to. Whether it’s a new silhouette, color combo, or item— I enjoying trying new things and weaving new elements into my existing wardrobe. Here are some of the trends I’m seeing in 2024 fall fashion.
Fall Fashion Color Trends 2024
Let’s start out by chatting about what colors we are likely going to be seeing a lot of this season. Red was big throughout the summer and it’s continuing into fall in both bright red and deep red. Green, my personal favorite to wear, is trending in all shades from pistachio to kelly to olive. Butter yellow is one to keep an eye out for as well.

LEOPARD— a timeless print that is always around but it ramps up and cools off in popularity. I’m always here for this trend as this print is neutral yet interesting and wearable yet a bit whimsical.
VESTS (DENIM VERSION)— this makes sense after we’ve embraced blazers, trousers, and oversized buttoned up shirts in recent years. I love that they’re being worn in a new way that feels really chic and modern— buttoned up as a top. If layered, I love it over a plain white tee for style juxtaposition vs over a tailored shirt. I’ll definitely be wearing this trend for fall.
CARDIGANS— always here but changing in fit, material, and proportions. Right now they’re being worn as a more fitted, shrunken style, buttoned up as a top which is reminiscent of the ’90s and I’m here for it.
DARK DENIM WASHES— after light washes being most dominant in the denim world in the past handful of years, super dark washes feel fresh and I love this trend.
BARREL LEG JEANS— the newest style on the block in the world of denim. I’ve been loving wearing this over the past few years and now it’s a pretty big trend. I love that it is expanding to have a range from subtle to exaggerated curves. If the exaggerated shape isn’t for you, I’d recommend starting with a subtle curve. I really love the feminine shape that it brings to jeans.
TROUSERS— still going strong, but I’m favoring the chino variety over the super dressy trouser. I personally love a little barrel leg bend in this garment as well.
DENIM PENCIL SKIRTS— like a skirt you’d see in an office with a blazer, but instead made in denim. This one I don’t plan to wear at this point. I don’t dislike it, but I also don’t envision it in my current casual wardrobe as I think it’s looks best styled in an elevated way.
PLEATED SKIRTS— it’s giving prep school vibes and I’ve seen quite a few that I really like. With that said, at this point I’m not rushing to get one. I like these dressed up in a way that looks chic. If worn casually, to me it looks like a teenager after school— ie with air forces ones and an oversized crewneck sweatshirt.
FULL SKIRTS— super pretty and I’m not against them but I’m probably not adding this to my wardrobe again, due to my more casual lifestyle.
BARN JACKETS— popping up everywhere, thanks to Prada. Trends like these make me chuckle because a whole population of people (ie carhartt wearing men) are all accidentally on-trend. This has also happened with dad jeans, shackets, and dad sneakers in recent years. I’m going to try this one out because it aligns with my casual style, and I LOVE jackets.
SUEDE JACKETS— on my wishlist for sure. I love how suede feels luxe yet casual. It fits perfectly for the casual chic side of my casual wardrobe. : )
BASEBALL HATS— always love and I’ve been wearing these a lot, especially on days when my hair isn’t the cleanest.
EMBELLISHED BELTS— this one is a big trend. I love it because it brings interest right to the center of an outfit and it juxtaposes nicely with jeans. I’m seeing studded belts, western style buckles, and metal design details.
SLOUCHY SUEDE BAGS— just like with the jackets, I love the casual yet luxe feel of suede and I’ve been very into wearing my suede tote throughout the summer. I’ll be wearing it with fall outfits as well.
KITTEN HEELS (BOOTS)— yes please because I no longer have any desire to wear high heels that hurt my feet. Spoken like a true middle ager, eh? When I wear heels on occasion, this is what I wear already, so I happen to be on trend. Ha!
TALL BOOTS (code: MICHELLE15 for 15% off your first order)— like fifteen years ago knee-high riding boots were all the rage and they stuck around for years before being dethroned by combat boots as the most-worn boot style. I haven’t had a tall boot since then, but I like that they’re back in more elevated silhouettes. These are on my wishlist.
RETRO TRAINERS— the sneaker world has been really huge in fashion in the last handful of years (hi, sambas) and I am so here for all of it, I love retro trainers.
MARY JANES (code: MICHELLE15 for 15% off your first order)— these were everywhere in mesh materials this summer and will move into fall in leather as well. I love wearing this feminine style.
LOAFERS (code: MICHELLE15 for 15% off your first order)— a huge trend that I love. They started off as a more traditional penny loafer with regular and chunkier sole versions. Those are still going strong and the trend is expanding to include similar preppy styles like driving moccs and boat shoes.
BALLET FLATS (code: MICHELLE15 for 15% off your first order)— another shoe that made a comeback within the last year or so that is still going strong and I love it.
