My spring wardrobe essentials 2024 post is finally here! I started 2024 with a year round wardrobe essentials post when the way I saw my wardrobe shifted, I realized that living in a mild climate, the core essentials of my wardrobe remain through all the seasons. I swapped from seeing four seasonal wardrobes to seeing the core, year round collection and four smaller seasonal additions. My wardrobe didn’t change, but how I organized and thought about it did, which simplified the process for me.

The Evolution of My Wardrobe Process

When I started blogging, I was building up my wardrobe after going through a ten year span of being pregnant, postpartum, or intending to soon get pregnant. This spanned ages 26 to 36 for me, so styles had changed, my body had changed, my age had changed. I was looking to build up a wardrobe fit for a grown up. I wanted to stop wearing mostly fast fashion (jeans, shoes, and bags were the only categories I previously invested in) and own higher-quality pieces. I also wanted to support small, ethical and sustainable fashion brands as much as I could within my budget.

As I set out to build my wardrobe, basically from scratch, in my mind I broke it into a layered approach. First, build up the basic, neutral, versatile clothing, then accessories. Next, add in a smaller layer of statement, trend, or fun clothing followed by fun accessories because I like those things too. Lastly, build smaller categorial layers that are more like a capsule for things like swimwear and workout clothing. I loved this approach. I wrote painstakingly long and overcomplicated blog posts all about the whole process and each layer— ha!

Each season and year I refined the process until I landed at making four collages each season, a visual approach to my original idea: one of essential clothing, one of essential shoes and accessories, one of statement clothing, one of statement shoes and accessories. These four collages were a top line glimpse at what was in my closet that season.

Spring 2024

This season, I decided to share a categorial glimpse into my wardrobe for spring 2024, so a bit of a deeper look. I don’t want to tell you these are the essentials that you “need” because as I grow in this process, I think that not a lot is truly timeless beyond a plain white crewneck tee and maybe vintage Levi’s jeans. You should wear what you love while also putting intention into creating a wardrobe with elements that work together and work for your life. Here is a glimpse at mine.

I’m forty, a mom, and I work from home. My style is pretty casual and I love hints of: chic-ness, texture, whimsy, and juxtaposition. I wear a lot of neutrals but I also like prints and pops of color here and there. I’m long-term obsessed with denim, shoes, and bags. I’m currently crushing on jackets. I like trying new things and weave in trends if they resonate with my style. I live in the south where it doesn’t get very cold and when it does, it isn’t for very long. It gets really hot and humid in the summer, and the warm weather lasts for months.
